Turbulence

Updated: Aug 2, 2022

Let's use our imagination for a bit today, shall we? Alright you ready?.. come with me:

It’s go time. A vacation is on the horizon that you have been waiting for, and it’s time to board the flight. You checked in smoothly, had favor with free baggage, and didn’t even pay for your seat, yet still landed a great one. Score. Now it’s time for take off. You begin to get situated and comfortable for your long flight. You know where you’re going because the ticket was booked for a certain destination, and you got on the right plane. So specific down to the number. Up up up and away you go, your destination arrival time is about 8 hours. You know it’s going to be a long flight, but that’s okay, you wore the right attire for a long flight, there’s food and beverage on the plane, earphones at hand and music/podcasts/movies are on deck ready to keep you company. You’re equipped for the flight. And packed for your destination. You're enjoying the flight so far, then about half way, the plane begins to shake. But if you’re use to flying, you know it’s JUST turbulence. It’ll only last a few seconds and be over with. However, this turbulence is a little more extreme than most. The plane is slightly tilting left and right, up and down for more than just a few seconds. The seatbelt sign comes on, motion sickness sweeps over, a little anxiety wants to kick in, and the entire flight is silenced by the fear that begins to spread like a disease in the place. Long minutes pass. As things don’t seam to be clearing up. You look out of the window, and you realize you’re in a storm.

The stories of other plane incidents that didn’t end well begin to flood your mind. Then suddenly, you hear the pilot come on the intercom and announce with a soft confidence “there’s no need to worry.. it’s a little more turbulence than usual, but I knew about the storm before take off. I’ll get you right through this in no time. And onward to your destination. Simply fasten your seat belts for safety, and try to relax. Thank you.” What do you do? Do you choose to believe the man that’s been flying for years and years that said “there’s no need to worry”? Or do you cave into fear and expect the worst? Isn’t it just like life that these type scenarios happen? You are called to a certain destination. Everything is solidified for you to get there. You’re equipped for it and know that we know you are meant to be there. At the beginning of the marriage, it was great. Now, divorce is knocking at your door… turbulence. You raised your child the right way, now they’re grown and making bad choices… turbulence. You’ve done everything to be and stay healthy, but the results to your labs came in and they’re not looking so great. Turbulence. In life, we hit turbulence and it’s almost as if it’s human nature to immediately begin to question “will we make it?” Even after hearing the Lord in what ways you hear Him say “don’t fear, I’m here, and WILL get you through.” Even knowing He’s done this a time or two. I mean, He’s only created existence and everything in it, right? Today, all I want to ask is if you’ll allow me to be the friend that’s sitting next you on the shaky plane, who’s sees the look of worry on your face, grabs your hand, smiles and says “it’s just turbulence, let’s trust the pilot”. The enemy loves to taunt us with warfare and attacks when we’re on our way to our destination. All through the Bible we read about Gods people being attacked in different ways by the enemy while in the midst of fulfilling their mission. But good thing he isn’t the one that booked your flight. God did. And good thing he isn’t your pilot. God is. I pray friend, that through whatever season of hardship you’re going through.. that you can remember what the pilot said. And go back to the podcast, the music, the book, relax, smile and say to the enemy “you’re just turbulence, I’ll get past this. My pilot knows how to deal with you.”

As always, with Love,

Your girl Brand
